Man is arrested for murder

JOBURG– An Ivory Park man is set to appear at the Tembisa Magistrates Court on charges of murder.

A man was arrested in Ivory Park on 8 February for allegedly murdering a man he believed was in a relationship with his wife.

According to the Ivory Park Police Station spokesperson, Captain Bernard Matimulane the 55-year-old suspect from Ivory Park had accused the victim, a 37-year-old man, of having an affair with his wife before the murder took place. He said the suspect went to the deceased’s house on 5 February to request that he [the deceased] accompany him to his home to talk.

It is alleged that once at his home, the suspect used a sjambok to assault the victim. The victim then left the suspect’s home. Matimulane added that on

7 February, the suspect’s wife received a call from the victim’s relative to tell her that the victim had died. “We take it that he died as a result of the injuries inflicted upon him.

“The police became aware of this incident after the death of the victim was reported. After the case was opened, Ivory Park Police Station detectives moved swiftly to look for the suspect.”

Matimulane added that the suspect would be charged with murder, and was expected to appear in the Tembisa Magistrates’ Court soon.
