Bell marks start of journey for learners

NOORDWYK – Christ Church Preparatory School and College hosted their bell-ringing ceremony to welcome pupils new to the school.

Christ Church Preparatory School and College welcomed their new learners by letting them take part in the longtime bell-ringing ceremony on 1 February.

Spokesperson for the school, Dawn Schmitz said, “The bell-ringing ceremony is a tradition for the college pupils of Christ Church Preparatory School and College. The ceremonial bell is rung twice by the pupils. Once when they enter the school, to show formal entry, and again after their matric valediction ceremony, to show their formal exit from their schooling career.

“The ceremonial bell was a gift from a past matric class, and the honour of ringing the bell has become a very important and symbolic tradition at Christ Church Preparatory School and College.”

As the school opened their doors to their learners, the Grade 7 and 8s who were new to the school rang the bell for the first time. He added, “Stringent sanitation took place prior to this event taking place.”

Schmitz concluded, “Christ Church Preparatory School and College would like to formally welcome all our new college pupils and wish them all the best for their high school careers.”
