5 Signs You’re Spending Too Much Time at Home

Staying indoors has never been more popular.

For a homebody, the idea of the perfect weekend goes something like this; a cup of coffee in one hand, a TV remote in the other, and the rest of your body spread across the sofa. No one can deny the cosy comforts of spending your downtime indoors, but too much of a good thing is a bad thing. Nonetheless, after a while, hanging out at home loses its appeal. If you’re not too sure whether you’ve been spending too much time at home, here are a few signs to look out for:

You Haven’t Eaten Out in Ages

The restaurant industry’s greatest gift to humanity is the ability to order online or on an app. A handful of keyboard strokes is all that’s needed to have your favourite meal delivered to you in minutes. But a house that’s overflowing with takeaway containers is home to someone who needs a change of scenery. If you’re not sure which eating spots are open, there’s probably a Wimpy restaurant near you that’s ready to take your order. With a mouth-watering menu, and the necessary health and hygiene measures in place to ensure your safety, it’s a welcome alternative to another day on your couch.

You’ve Run Out of Things to Watch

Whether it’s back-to-back episodes of your favourite series, a day-long spiral down YouTube’s rabbit hole, it’s not uncommon for people to spend their entire day glued to a screen. But that has its limits too. If your favourite streaming platform has run out of recommendations to give; or you ask yourself how you ended up watching reviews for a new motorised foot scraper, maybe it’s time to leave the house.

You’re Always Wearing Sweatpants

Anyone who’s worked from home knows that sweatpants are business attire that’s suitable for virtual meetings. It’s also safe to assume that after a while your sanity, much like the drawstring on your sweatpants, is hanging on by a thread. You know you’ve reached hermit status when you wake up and say, “I think I’ll wear sweats again,” a bit too often.

Your House Slippers Are Worn Out

This one’s self-explanatory. Unless you jog in your house slippers, you can expect them to have a healthy shelf life. Those limited-edition basketball sneakers or designer boots you got on sale deserve some time out of the house, and what better occasion to wear them than when you eat out?

Your Kids Keep Telling You They’re Bored

You won’t have to guess when your kid is bored. When your little one puts their elbows on the table, sinks their chin into their hands, and lets out a sigh that rivals a backpack leaf blower, boredom has officially set in. Now’s probably a good time to take them to a kid-friendly restaurant so they can get a good meal, a new toy, and a chance to leave the house. Staying at home is important, but giving yourself a breather is just as important. Whether it’s a trip to your local Wimpy or a jog around the block, don’t underestimate the power of getting a bit of fresh air.
