Diepsloot community participates in a fun walk for a good cause

DIEPSLOOT– "We've decided to do this six-kilometre walk today in partnership with Bafokeng as a way collecting sanitary towels for young girls in sports," Hlaka said.

A Diepsloot-based non-profit organisation, Youth Alive Sports Project in partnership with Bafokeng Cares hosted the Walk for Purpose fun walk recently.

Youth Alive Sports Project is a non-profit organisation that gives local youngsters a chance to be healthy and opportunities in life through sport.

Scores of community members from Diepsloot and surrounding areas participated in the event in which the entry fee was a pack of sanitary towels.

Founders of the project, Precious Hlaka said the six-kilometre fun walk started at Diepsloot Mall and ended with an aerobics session at Bafokeng Farm Village.
“We’ve decided to do this six-kilometre walk today in partnership with Bafokeng as a way of collecting sanitary towels for young girls in sports. We’ve realised that some girls who do well in different sport codes end up not participating simply because they lack and can’t afford this essential need for ladies. With the help of community members and Bafokeng Cares, we’ve managed to collect towels though we haven’t reach our target,” Hlaka added.

Marketing and public relations officer at Bafokeng Cares, Nomcebo Mahhashi said, “Bafokeng Cares is a subsidiary of Mutla Holdings, a Johannesburg-based company with its roots and interests across hospitality, property development, management and consulting, and service trades. We believe in giving back to the community and uplifting young people in different communities.
“We are looking forward to a long working relationship with Youth Alive Sports Project to lend a helping hand in the Diepsloot community.”
