Midrand police officers nab five for possession of unlicensed firearm

WATERFALL – The police arrested five suspects following the discovery of an unlicensed firearm during a stop-and-search.

Midrand police arrested five suspects for the possession of an unlicensed firearm on 15 November.

The arrest took place on Allandale Road near Waterfall when police were patrolling the area.

Spokesperson for the Midrand Police Station Sergeant Matome Tlamela said while they were patrolling they noticed a silver Volkswagen Polo with no licence plates.

Tlamela added that the vehicle had five occupants and the officers asked the driver and the occupants to exit the vehicle.

“The officers asked to search the driver and found a firearm in his possession.

The officer asked if the suspect had a licence which he failed to produce.

” He searched the vehicle and found the [car] licence plates in the boot.”

All five suspects were arrested for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and were detained at Midrand Police Station.
