City commends Fourways hotel management for refusing to pay a bribe

JOHANNESBURG– Strategic stakeholder management director at GFIS, Lucky Sindane said the suspects between the ages of 36 and 43 are in police custody and have not yet appeared in court.

The City of Johannesburg Group Forensic and Investigation Service Department (GFIS) has commended the management of Tsogo Sun Hotels in Fourways for refusing a bribe from two suspects who were pretending to be the City’s debt collectors.

This, after the City’s GFIS and the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI), also known as the Hawks, arrested two male suspects for soliciting a bribe and impersonating officials from a company contracted by the City as debt collectors.

It is alleged that the two suspects approached Tsogo Sun Hotels’ financial director and promised to reduce a debt of R323 000 to R23 000 provided that he pays them R67 000.

According to the statement issued by the City of Johannesburg Communication Department, the first suspect was arrested at a fast food outlet in Parktown and then led police to his accomplice on 15 October.

Strategic stakeholder management director at GFIS, Lucky Sindane said the two suspects, between the ages of 36 and 43, are in police custody and have not yet appeared in court. “We would like to commend Tsogo Sun Hotels Montecasino management for refusing to be part of any corrupt activity and reporting the matter to GFIS and law enforcement agencies. Corruption has no place in the City of Johannesburg.”

Sindane encouraged members of the public to report any fraud and corruption activities through the City’s 24-hour tip-off hotline 0800 002 587.

Tsogo Sun Hotels declined to comment on the matter.
