Sunninghill restaurantgoers are targeted in robbery

SUNNINGHILL – Two suspects ran into the restaurant before pointing guns at a group of people.

A group of men allegedly robbed patrons of a restaurant in Sunninghill on 21 October.

Captain Bheki Xulu, spokeperson for the Sandton Police Station said that the incident took place at 2.30pm. “It’s alleged that the victim was followed by unknown men because he was wearing a Rolex watch to a restaurant.”

He said that firearms were pointed at the victim and the suspects took jewellery, a watch and cell phone. A video of the incident circulated on social media shows two men jumping over a railing into the restaurant, forcing a group of six people to lay on the ground.

A statement by the Sunninghill Ratepayers said that video footage shows the suspects being dropped off while the getaway driver parked on a nearby street. The incident is over is a couple of minutes and the suspects run to their vehicle.

Xulu concluded that one suspect accidentally had discharged his firearm but no one was injured.
