Fourways community shares crime fighting ideas with men in blue

DAINFERN– According to Colonel Tshekiso Mofokeng, the Coffee with a Cop initiative was aimed at closing the gap and promoting interaction between the police and community members.

In their concerted efforts to curb crime in communities, the police hosted a Coffee with a Cop outreach event on 7 October at Dainfern Golf Estate.

Various police units including Metro police and medical emergency service companies took part into the event, educating and sharing information with members of the community.

According to Colonel Tshekiso Mofokeng, the Coffee with a Cop initiative was aimed at closing the gap and promoting interaction between the police and community members.

“This initiative is the brain child of our provincial commissioner Lieutenant-General Elias Mawela and Itlhokomeleng Batho Rehabilitation Centre. It is aimed at bringing together members of the community and police officers to have interaction and share information and ideas that can help in the fight against crime. This provincial initiative has proved to be a useful platform in the past years,” he said.

General manager at Dainfern Golf Estate, David Weyers described the event as a useful tool in the fight against crime in communities.

“Our communities are constantly faced with crime and crime related issues. We as the Dainfern community have an important role to play in the fight against crime and engagements like Coffee with a Cop can help us eradicate crime in our communities,” he said.

“Our work relationship with the police has improved and we have a good working relationship with Douglasdale Police Station. During the Covid-19 pandemic outbreak, we were working very close with the police to ensure that community members adhere to lockdown rules.”

Mofokeng urged community members to use the event as a platform to air their views and share crime related information with the police that could be used to curb crime.
