Lonehill residents embark on an initiative to clean up the streets in their neighbourhood

LONEHILL– During the country's lockdown due to the Covid-19 pandemic outbreak, the pair embarked on an initiative to clean local streets.

Local businessman and founder of Sean Williams Living Creatures Trust (SWLCT), Sean Williams together with his friend Lovemore Robson have embarked on a mission to keep Fourways streets clean and tidy.

During the country’s lockdown due to the Covid-19 pandemic outbreak, the pair embarked on an initiative to clean local streets.

In their efforts to keep their suburb garbage free, residents and community members of Fourways recently rolled up their sleeves and joined the pair to clean up William Nicol Drive and Sunrise

Boulevard Road. “I always have a passion to save the environment and I am very much involved in looking after the marine life. The fact is that all these garbage that is not collected will have a negative impact on our environment if we do nothing about it,” Williams said.

“We cannot afford to see our environment being destroyed because we are waiting for someone to do something. This waste will go down to the rivers and oceans and will have bad effects on the marine creatures.”

Among those who heeded the call to keep Fourways’ streets garbage free, was Ward 93 councillor Candice James who encouraged community members to take part in the initiative.

“If we can have more people looking after their streets in their neighbourhood, our country will look better. I know and I am aware that residents pay rates and taxes, however, initiatives like this one go a long way in preserving our environment. We appeal to motorists not to throw rubbish through windows while driving. They must take it home and put it into the waste bins.”
