WhatsApp Lipizzaner Fundraiser raises over R40 000 for the magnificent stallions

KYALAMI – The event tested participants' knowledge of the Lipizzaners through quizzes, challenges and banter.

Friends of the SA Lipizzaners from across the world joined a WhatsApp Lipizzaner Fundraiser on 22 August.

Volunteer at the SA Lipizzaners Gina Boxley explained, “Participants were tested on their knowledge of the Lipizzaners through quizzes, challenges and banter to better each other’s donations. As fundraising targets were attained, special behind the scenes videos of ‘A day in the life of a Lipizzaner stallion’ were shared. The pace gradually exploded to breakneck speed as the participants went out of their way to better each other’s knowledge and donations.

“It was like running a marathon trying to keep up with the flying WhatsApp messages and the incredible generosity of the participants was beyond moving.”
The event raised a total of R40 750 in a short three-hour period. “The excitement soared as we passed the target of R25 000 and emotions, tears, laughter and thrills continued as participants did not want the amazing event to end.”

Boxley thanks all the donors, event organiser Janine D’Alebout and auctioneer Greg Gunner for their efforts. The public can now attend the Lipizzaner shows on a small scale in observance of the social gathering laws allowing 50 people at a public event.

“The Lipizzaners are still not able to generate their full income and it will take some time to regain their financial losses due to Covid-19. We have held on by the skin of our teeth and hope that the public will support the 11am Sunday shows to assist with all the needs of these legendary stallions.”

Proceeds from the fundraiser will be used to replace worn-out equipment.
