Covid-19: 49 493 active cases of Covid-19 in SA

Gauteng remains the province with the highest number of active cases sitting at 19 291.

Minister of Health Dr Zweli Mkhize reported on 30 September that the cumulative number of Covid-19 cases in South Africa stands at 674 339, with 49 493 active cases.

A total of 4 187 917 tests have been conducted to date with 23 426 new tests conducted since the report on 29 September.

Gauteng remains the province with the highest number of active cases sitting at 19 291 followed by the Free State with 12 902 and KwaZulu-Natal with 5 898. Limpopo has the lowest number of active cases sitting at 694.

Gauteng still leads with the highest cumulative number of Covid-19 cases to date, representing 32.6 per cent of the total number of cases in the country (219 704). KwaZulu-Natal sits in second place with 119 072 (17.7 per cent) followed by the Western Cape with 110 739 (16.4 per cent) and the Eastern Cape with 89 204 (13.2 per cent).

On 30 September it was reported that another 67 people succumbed to the virus, 37 of whom were from KwaZulu-Natal, 11 from Gauteng, nine from the Western Cape, seven from the Free State and three from the Eastern Cape.

Recoveries now stand at 608 112, translating to a recovery rate of 90 per cent.
