Help Fourways High plant a veggie garden

FOURWAYS – By involving learners in the project, they can transfer the knowledge learned to start their own gardens or initiatives that share knowledge with others so that the concept spreads.

Fourways High School is appealing to local residents for help in the setup of their new vegetable garden, which will seek to grow vegetables to help support families within the school that are hardest hit by the effects of Covid-19.

Supervisor of the project educator Mark Guthrie explained that the garden will aim to sustainably grow a variety of staple and seasonal vegetables for families in need.

Guthrie said that the school hopes to first assist those within the school community and then those within the greater community with food from the garden.

By involving learners in the project, they can transfer the knowledge learned to start their own gardens or initiatives that share knowledge with others so that the concept spreads.

They are especially looking for donations of compost and vegetable seeds for beans, beetroot, carrots, brinjal, parsnip, peas, peppers, potatoes, pumpkin, Swiss chard, spinach, tomatoes and more.

They are also looking for donations of herb seeds for celery, basil, chives, coriander, oregano, sage, thyme and chillies.

Donations of non-toxic, preferably natural, pesticides and frames to grow items such as peas and beans and even pumpkins would also be welcome.
