Action cricket to be played again in Joburg

JOBURG – Local action sport arenas can look forward to a return of action cricket.

Action cricket will soon be played again at the Fourways Falcon Action Sports, Sandton Action Sports and Midrand Action Sports arenas.

Action Sports general manager, Ray Lourens confirmed this, saying some arenas around the country already opened on 19 August after it was gazetted that sports could resume.

“Our teams have worked tirelessly over the last four to five months to ensure that all health and safety measures are in place at our 24 arenas,” he said.

“Such measures include limited participating teams, sanitiser stations, arrival temperature checks and disclosure forms. Rest assured that we are well aware of the severity of the Covid-19 virus and as such do not take our return lightly.

“In terms of on the field play, players will not make contact with one another or share equipment – all of which will be overseen by the assigned umpires.”

He said arenas have opened for both cricket coaching as well as social games. “Following a week or two of assessment on the standard of social play by our umpires, each arena may then formulate a competitive league, under the same strict Covid-19 health regulations of course,” he concluded.
