Over 80 Joburg Water employees test positive for Covid-19 in Region A

SUNNINGHILL – Ward 93 councillor, Candice James urged community members to continue reporting water-related problems in their respective areas.

The City of Johannesburg water utility, Joburg Water said its operation will be affected for the next few days in Region A.

This was after over 80 staff members at the utility recently tested positive for Covid-19 in the region.

Communications and marketing manager at Joburg Water, Isaac Dhludhlu, said, “We had over 80 cases and, as expected, operations will be impacted as staff needs to go on quarantine and isolation, which means we will have service delivery challenges in terms of turnaround times.
“The tracing process has started, to find those who may have been in contact with our staff members. The company is following the National Department of Health guidelines to protect those who are not sick. So, any shortages in terms of manpower will certainly affect operations.”

Ward 93 councillor, Candice James said, “This will indeed have a negative effect on our residents and also put a huge pressure on service delivery. We wish all the staff members a speedy recovery.”

She urged community members to continue reporting water-related problems in their respective areas to their councillors. “We are here to help the community and work together with them.”
