South African Guide-Dogs Association to host webinar to help raise funds

PAULSHOF – The SA Guide-Dogs Association are hosting a 67-minute webinar with expert speakers to discuss the challenges associated with lockdown and Covid-19.

The South African Guide-Dogs Association for the Blind is hosting a 67-minute webinar to inspire community members amidst the stresses of lockdown and Covid-19.

Events coordinator for the association Yolande van Rooyen said, “The webinar is aimed at anyone in need of some inspiration and advice during this difficult time. There is a need for people to understand their rights when it comes to retrenchments and there is help available for those who need it. Business owners are also worried and stressed and the session will give some handy tips on how to think outside the box. You don’t have to despair, there is help out there.”

Speakers, who are experts in their fields, will address a number of relevant topics of interest to locals during this time.

Motivational speaker, author and humourist Gavin Sharples will discuss ‘Dealing with depression caused by Covid-19 and subsequent retrenchments’, helping listeners face difficult issues in life head-on.

Seasoned executive Dr Gert Holtzhauzen will look at ‘Lockdown – it’s not necessarily the end of your business’, giving advice to business owners through this tough financial season.

Advocate Ernst Richter, who is CEO of Labour Law SA, will discuss the rights of people being retrenched.
Finally, public relations manager at the SA Guide-Dogs Association Pieter van Niekerk will discuss his experiences of being visually impaired and give advice and practical tips on how to deal with a visually-impaired person.

Van Rooyen said she hopes that those who join will find hope during this period of uncertainty.

The event is one of many fundraisers the association has initiated during lockdown. “SA Guide-Dogs Association for the Blind receives no government funding and relies on these initiatives and donations to keep our dogs in training and support people who are visually impaired with assistance devices and daily living skills training.”

The association celebrated their 67th anniversary this year and wishes to thank the public for their ongoing support.

“For 67 minutes, viewers can tune out of daily challenges and just sit back and hear some good news and accurate advice from specialists in their field.”

Tickets are on sale for R67 each. Viewers can purchase tickets at https://qkt.io/D43EKN. Donations are also welcome throughout the session. The webinar will take place on 17 July from 12pm to 1pm.
