ICYMI: Police investigating death of cyclist on Uranium Road

FOURWAYS – The motorist was arrested by Douglasdale police and will answer to charges of culpable homicide.

The Fourways community is outraged following the death of a 37-year-old mountain biker who was knocked down on Uranium Road on 11 June.

Chief operating officer at Emer-G-Med, Jurgen Kotze said his teams were alerted by members of the public to the scene where a mountain biker cycling on the pavement was knocked down by a motorist on Uranium Road travelling towards William Nicol Drive. The incident took place at about 1.10pm on 11 June.

Kotze said the Emer-G-Med accident management team arrived first on scene and found a car that had lost control. Knotze said the biker succumbed to his injuries.

Acting provincial head of corporate communications for Gauteng police, Colonel Noxolo Kweza said that police are investigating a case of culpable homicide, together with drunken driving.

“The driver of the vehicle was arrested and has been charged. He is 40-years-old and will appear in court soon.”
