ICYMI: Help St Peter’s College donate food parcels

SUNNINGHILL – St Peters College has so far collected over 200 food parcels for families at Gideon Rambuwani Primary School.

St Peter’s College in Sunninghill invites community members to join them as they aim to feed families in need at Gideon Rambuwani Primary School in Klipfontein.

Marketing and admissions manager Nosipho Nkosi said the food parcel drive was launched at the start of Term 2.

“This is a programme aimed at instilling in children a sense of contribution and appreciation of their community. The programme supports our core values of respect, relationships and resilience, thus extending these to the surrounding community,” said Nkosi.

She said that the school partnered with Gideon Rambuwani Primary at the start of the school year.

“The objective of the partnership is to mentor the young students at Gideon Rambuwani by conducting termly visits to the school where our Grade 9 students and their teachers spend the day with Grade 4 and 5 students and Gideon Rambuwani. The idea is for the knowledge to be shared amongst the two schools as we believe that our students also gain valuable life lessons from their interaction with students from Rambuwani.”

Nkosi said she hopes that each family and child at St Peter’s will contribute to this drive. The drive has also been promoted on social media to boost the number of donations. So far, over 200 food packs have been collected.

Here are the suggested items to include in each food pack:

  • 5kg maize meal
  • 1kg samp
  • 2kg sugar
  • 4 tins of baked beans
  • 4 tins of tinned fish
  • 2 litres cooking oil
  • 1 jar of peanut butter
  • 1 jar of jam
  • 200g teabags.

Members of the public are encouraged to drop off their food packs at the College Car Park in College Lane off Maxwell/ Waterfall Drive in Sunninghill. Security personnel will receive the packs, ensuring that they adhere to all Covid-19 rules.

A number of learners have forgone their allowances to donate over 10 food parcels. Some of these learners include James Crossley, Jodi Scott and Andrea Wild.
