FOURWAYS – David Foley, councillor for Ward 94, is leading by example during lockdown by staying home as much as possible in order to stop the spread of Covid-19.

The councillor, whose ward is made up of a number of suburbs including parts of Fourways, parts of Lonehill and parts of Kyalami, told the Fourways Review that he has being staying at home as requested by government and has only left the house to buy essential food items as this is the key to ensure that the virus does not spread further. “[When I go out on these trips] and observe any service delivery issues [in the area], when returning I home log respective calls to the City of Joburg,” he explained.
“I do not leave the house without a mask or gloves even to take the dustbin down to the street, ensuring that if I have to speak to someone, we are both protected.”He explained that while residents in his ward, like the rest of the country, are no longer free to go to the gym, take their dogs for a walk or enjoy outdoor sports, they have been taking the lockdown order seriously.
“People in Ward 94 in general have been extremely willing to abide by the stay-at-home request and social or physical distancing, at food retailers it can clearly be seen the behaviour pattern where distance is maintained.
“Civil obedience is displayed, everyone has realised the impact of this virus cannot be taken lightly. We have key leaders in the world who have contracted the virus through various engagements, so it is critical to stay at home.”
Foley added that while he preferred being out and about in his ward dealing with problems in person, the need to comply with lockdown measures had curtailed that. He explained instead that he has been continuing his council work via email, phone and social media. He added that all critical services have been functional so far which means that residents facing an issue can still contact the correct authorities about the matter.
“I can only emphasise that staying at home is the best for everyone so the virus can be under control and the lockdown can be lifted. From the public I would expect them to report anyone that is not conforming to the restrictions to the authorities, this protects us all.”
