Covid-19: Number of cases in South Africa grows by 178

Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize announced that there have been two additional Covid-19-related deaths in the country, bringing the total to 50.

Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize announced on 17 April that the number of coronavirus cases in South Africa has risen by 178 and two additional deaths have been reported.

The total number of cases is now 2 783. Gauteng remains the province with the highest number of confirmed cases, followed by the Western Cape and KwaZulu-Natal.

Mkhize said, “We regrettably report two new Covid-19-related deaths. Both deceased are from Western Cape. This increases the total number of deaths to 50.

“We convey our condolences to the families and appreciate the health workers who were treating the deceased patients.”
