MIDRAND – The man was sentenced for a business robbery which took place in November 2018.

One man has been sentenced to 13 years’ imprisonment after he was found guilty of business robbery.

According to a statement by the spokesperson for the Midrand Police Station Sergeant Matome Tlamela, the incident in question occurred on 2 November 2018 at about 9am, when a Kyalami business owner arrived at his shop in order to pay one of his employees their salary.

The pair were in the upstairs office section of the business when three men, one armed with a knife and a second armed with a firearm entered the premises.

The men ordered the business owner to lie down on the ground before ransacking the office, taking the employee’s R2 000 salary payment before ordering the shop owner to take them to his home in the Waterfall area. At the house, the men stole two safes (containing jewellery, company credit cards and legal documents) worth an estimated R800 000. The men then fled the scene.
