Police arrest suspects for attempted murder

HALFWAY HOUSE – Police arrested two suspects for armed robbery and attempted murder.


The Midrand Police Station has opened cases of attempted murder and armed robbery following an incident on 24 March.

Spokesperson for the Midrand Police Station, Sergeant Matome Tlamela, said that the incident occurred at 4pm on the corner of Le Roux Road and Richards Drive in Halfway House. While walking, the victim was approached by four armed suspects who grabbed her cell phone and attempted to drag her to their vehicle.

Sector 2 manager Sergeant Benji Nkatingi, who was on leave at the time, noticed the commotion and cornered the suspects before they could flee the scene.

Tlamela added that the suspects fired shots at Nkatingi which hit his car. He retaliated fire and hit the suspect’s car’s right bumper. He held them off until back up arrived which saw two suspects being arrested.

The victim’s personal belongings were recovered and she sustained injuries to her head and neck. She was transported to Tembisa Hospital where she received treatment.

The two arrested suspects were detained at Midrand Police Station and charged with attempted murder and armed robbery.
