Dainfern College High School was proud to present The Addams Family musical as their major production for 2020 and performances took place early in March prior to the closure of all schools.
The play told the story of the Addams Family and their kooky, upside-down world. Gomez and Morticia, played by Robert van den Steen and Alexia Duvenage, have to deal with many of the same challenges faced by other families: their kids are growing up. Their daughter, Wednesday (played by Cameron Smit), has fallen in love with Lucas Beineke (played by Matthew Pretorius), a sweet, smart boy from a normal, respectable family, and she has invited him and his parents for dinner.

In one fateful, hilarious night, secrets are disclosed, relationships are tested, and the Addams family must face up to the one horrible thing they’ve managed to avoid for generations – change.
The cast and crew had worked hard for several months, deftly juggling academics, extra-murals and the hours and hours of rehearsals. High school drama teacher Kelsey-Lynn Oosthuizen chose the play and was ably assisted by Caitlin Salgado who directed the play and Zelda Martin who produced it.

The music was directed by Brinley Yon of the Dainfern College Music Centre, and the learners were honoured to have Carmen Pretorius, a seasoned professional choreographer, work with the cast to fine-tune their skills.
The cast performed to great acclaim each night and the audiences thoroughly enjoyed their performances. The performing arts are a critical part of the cultural pillar at Dainfern College and major productions are always a highlight on the creative arts calendar.
