Planned non-critical maintenance suspended by City Power

JOBURG – The suspension of all non-critical planned maintenance is to comply with the declared state of national disaster and lockdown.

City Power has released a statement stating that they have suspended all non-critical planned maintenance until 16 April, but critical emergency maintenance will still be carried out during the lockdown period.

Spokesperson for City Power, Isaac Mangena said, “The suspension is to avoid the inconvenience for customers during the period of the Covid-19 lockdown and to ensure that all of our resources are geared towards attending to unplanned outages and emergency maintenance in support of the City’s efforts in curbing the rapid spread of Covid-19.”

The suspension is to also comply with the declared state of national disaster and lockdown. Mangena added that City Power has the set systems in place to ensure that essential services continue.

Joburg Mayor Geoff Makhubo has urged all customers whose services were disconnected prior to the lockdown and in accordance with the credit management by-laws, to urgently make the necessary arrangements to ensure that their electricity is restored.
