Multiple arrests made in Douglasdale

DOUGLASDALE – 31 suspects have been arrested in a single weekend for charges including theft, shoplifting and reckless and negligent driving.


The streets of Douglasdale are a little bit safer after dozens of suspects were arrested in a single weekend.

Between 6 and 8 March, Douglasdale police together with the National Traffic Police and Metro police arrested 31 suspects during joint operations that were conducted throughout the area.

According to a statement by the spokesperson for the Douglasdale Police Station Captain Mpho Tshetlhane, the suspects were arrested for different crimes ranging from fraud, theft, driving under the influence of liquor, reckless and negligent driving, dealing in liquor, theft and shoplifting.

Among the arrested suspects, 28 were arrested for drunk and driving and arrested suspects will appear in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court soon. “The arrest of the suspects is an indication that the police are determined to ensure that the community of Douglasdale are and feel safe. We also advise motorists to drink responsibly,” the statement read in part.

The police also appealed to residents to keep reporting all criminal activities in their area by phoning the station or reporting via the MySAPS app, where members of the public can provide tip-offs anonymously or find their nearest police station.
