Cactus Road is closed following JRA work

KYALAMI – Cactus Road has received work from the Johannesburg Road Agency but is still in a bad state.

The Johannesburg Road Agency has done some work on the mud pools on Cactus Road in Kyalami but it still remains an issue.

The road has been an issue for local residents who drove on the road, with many vehicles getting stuck as reported in the Fourways Review article Councillor frustrated with mud pool on Cactus Road [Week ending 13 March]. The roads state stemmed from the collection of water that created the soggy mud pool that made it hard to drive on.

JRA announced that they would work on the road on 11 and 12 March. Spokesperson Zoleka Jika said that the entity would collect sand to be used placed on the road to cover the mud pool and make it easier for motorists to cross. But following the work, heavy rains hit Johannesburg on 12 March which caused the work done by the agency to fail and the road was forced to close.

Ward 94 councillor David Foley said that the sand had become soggy and difficult to drive with and the uneven grading between the new sand and dirt road has caused a new mud pool to develop.

Foley said that he has escalated the issue with the Johannesburg Road Agency for them to come back to carry on the work, possibly by adding stronger sand to withstand the elements. He added that local residents should try and avoid the road by finding alternative routes.
