South African Guide-Dogs Association gives a superb prize for a good cause

PAULSHOF – One lucky South African Guide-Dogs Association supporter has just walked away with a brand-new car – and if you buy a raffle ticket, you could drive away in one too!

Woof woof, beep beep!

Tails were wagging with joy on 6 March when the winner of the 2019 South African Guide-Dogs Association car raffle, Yolanda Prinsloo, was handed the keys to her brand-new Suzuki Swift GL at the non-profit organisation’s premises in Paulshof. The raffle, which saw members of the public paying R30 a ticket to enter the draw, managed to raise over R520 000.

“I’m so excited to have won, I spent about R2 000 on tickets for this raffle,” she told the Fourways Review just after being handed the keys to her brand-new ride. “The work that the guide-dogs association does is amazing because for people who can’t see, this organisation takes the time and effort to give them guide dogs and other donations to help them live a good life.

“I plan to become a volunteer with the organisation in the future because of the work they do.”

The 2019 competition was the third year in a row that Suzuki has provided the raffle prize, and according to Toni Herbst, media liaison for Suzuki head office, the company will also be providing the prize for the 2020 raffle.

“It’s wonderful to support the South African Guide-Dogs Association, and it’s even more wonderful to see another person behind the wheel of a Suzuki, as the Swift is one of our best-selling models. We are so proud to support and be associated with this organisation.

“For the 2020 raffle, we’ve sponsored the prize of a Suzuki Swift GLZ MT.”

The association hopes that this year’s raffle will bring in even more money, ideally R1 million, which they can use to train working dogs which provide support for the visually impaired, the disabled and children with autism.

“Today we’re celebrating one lucky winner, but you can be the next lucky winner too,” said Nadia Sands, who does the marketing.

“Raffle tickets cost R50 each, and people should keep an eye on our website where they’ll be on sale soon.”
