Search for guard linked to R4-million theft

MIDRAND – The police launched a manhunt for a security guard allegedly linked to a theft of R4 million.

The police and SBV Services are appealing to the community to provide information about a security guard, Bathobile Mlangeni, who police have linked to the theft of R4 million.

The incident occurred at a SBV Services collection facility at a mall in Midrand in July last year.

Provincial police spokesperson Captain Kay Makhubele confirmed that a case of theft has been opened and the police are searching for Mlangeni, who has not been seen since the incident.

He added, “The court has issued a warrant of arrest.”

In a statement released by SBV Services, the group CEO Mark Barrett said, “As a key service provider that ensures that cash is available for the citizens of South Africa, and as a responsible corporate citizen, we do not tolerate any crime and take all internal and external incidents in a serious light.

“If an incident does occur, we will focus our efforts together with the relevant authorities to ensure that the perpetrators involved are brought to justice.”

Makhubele requested that anyone with information on the whereabouts of Mlangeni contact their nearest police station or investigating officers Captain Oupa Miya or Sergeant Tume Mohutsiwa on 082 822 8794.
