WATCH: Various bridges flooded in Joburg, motorists advised to be cautious
JOBURG – Joburg has seen some localised flooding this morning, with some rivers overflowing and preventing motorists from crossing.
Motorists in Joburg have been urged to be cautious as bridges in Joburg flood following the heavy rain that started last night, 7 February.
This has left Twitter in a state of panic as some people have expressed how the floods can be extremely dangerous for those on the roads this morning.
Among places that have been reported to have flooded are Witkoppen Road in Paulshof and Sunninghill Bridge, which has been closed. Motorists are advised to avoid N3 Gilloolys which has flooded in both directions and the M1 Double-deckers have flooded in both directions.

The South African Weather Service has issued a warning of possible flooding in parts of Gauteng which is set to continue for the rest of the weekend.

The bridge on Witkoppen Road in Paulshof has been reported to have flooded. Motorists are therefore advised to take alternative routes.
For safety, cars are turning around on the road as they get to the bridge. A man is stationed at the bridge, advising motorists to turn around. Two pedestrians were seen crossing the flooded bridge at around 10.20 am this morning.
The heavy rainfall caused the Belgrave Bridge in River Club to flood. Motorists were advised to use alternative routes. Check out the video and photo below taken by River Club resident, Chris Marshall.

The City of Joburg has appealed to communities to report any fallen trees they come across to 011 375 5555 and choose option 0. A consultant will relay the requests to Joburg Parks Zoo’s standby teams who will then attend to the emergency.
