Fourways High School’s Ventus house splashes away the competition

FOURWAYS – Fourways High swimmers came together for their Inter-Tribe Gala for a Friday of fun in the pool.


Fourways High School held their yearly inter-tribe swimming gala on 17 January, with some competitive and talented swimmers competing to be the highly esteemed winner of the Fourways High Inter-Tribe Gala.

Ingus, Ventus, Aqua and Terra gathered in their tribes for the day and cheered loudly for the swimmers representing their tribes in the pool. A fun day in the sun was definitely had by all who attended.

Faces were painted in the respective tribe colours and laughs were shared amongst friends.

The junior victrix ludorum was Paige Brown, and junior victor ludorum was Jake Campbell. Paige came first in all the races she competed in, including the U15 freestyle, butterfly, breaststroke, backstroke and individual medley for the junior girls. Jake also came first in his races.

These include the individual medley for junior boys, U15 backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, and freestyle.

With the sweniors, the victrix ludorum was awarded to Katelyn Fletcher, and victor ludorum to Tristan Nel. Katelyn won all the races she competed in. Swimming among the U17 girls, she won first place in the backstroke, breaststroke, freestyle, senior girls’ individual medley and butterfly races. Tristan came third in the open backstroke, second in both the breaststroke and butterfly, and first in the senior boys’ individual medley and freestyle races.

The 2020 Spirit Trophy was awarded to Aqua for their stupendous efforts at motivating their team clad in blue – the trophy was received by the house captains, Taézen Singh and Yomelela Ntuli. The overall winner, however, was Ventus for the tribe’s fantastic results in all races.

The final placings were:

• First: Ventus

• Second: Ignus

• Third: Terra

• Fourth: Aqua.
