Eskom says there is a risk of load-shedding tonight

JOBURG – The power utility says they are using diesel generators to the meet demand during the day.


The state power utility Eskom has announced today, 30 January that the power system remains tight and that there is a risk of load-shedding this evening. 

In a statement, Eskom said they are using diesel generators to meet the demand.  The statement read, “The units that were expected to come back from maintenance were delayed, which led to diesel generators being used overnight. ”

Currently, Eskom says they have enough emergency reserves to supplement capacity during the day, however, they may need to implement load-shedding later on today in order to increase capacity.

Customers have been advised to reduce the demand while their work on stabilising the power system continues.
