The risk of load-shedding is low
JOBURG – Eskom says the power system is tight this morning, 28 January.
Eskom has said in a statement that the power system is tight but the risk of load-shedding is low today, 28 January.
The power utility said, “We are currently using diesel turbines to supplement capacity as we await the return of some generation units from maintenance. Unplanned breakdowns were at 13 337 MW as at 7.30 this morning, which is slightly lower than yesterday, 27 January.”
According to the statement, five units totalling just under 2 000MW are expected to come back online during the course of the day, which will be utilised in the place of the emergency resources. “We are doing everything possible to avoid load-shedding but we are mindful that it should not be at all cost. It is for this reason that we have put emphasis on improving the effectiveness of our maintenance regime and work toward keeping unplanned outages below 9 500MW.”
Eskom has asked the public to work with them by reducing the power demand while they (Eskom) work on stabilising the power system.
