Protest action at Eskom head offices in Sunninghill

SUNNINGHILL – Demonstrators were waving signs and banners calling for the removal of public enterprise minister Pravin Gordhan.

A group of about 50 protesters gathered outside Eskom Megawatt Park in Sunninghill on Maxwell Drive on 15 January to hand over a memorandum.

Residents in the area were warned to stay away from the offices by a local CPF group on social media, however,  the demonstration did not cause much disruption on Maxwell Drive, instead, protesters gathered near the entrance of the Eskom offices.

Protesters waved signs and banners calling for the removal of Public Enterprise Minister Pravin Gordhan and Eskom COO Jan Oberholzer, and a stop to the unbundling of Eskom.

Police were on the scene observing the protest which was peaceful. The power utility has had numerous issues with keeping the lights on, with growing calls from opposition parties for several leaders within the state-owned enterprise to be removed.
