Youngsters from Xstatic Dance Studio dance their hearts out

SUNNINGHILL – You've heard about people who wear their hearts on their sleeves, but these dancers wore their hearts on their feet as they danced it out in this year's Xstatic Dance Studio Showcase.

The young dancers from the Xstatic Dance Studio were not afraid to show a little emotion on stage during their end of year showcase recently.

On 30 November the dance school, which has studios in both Pineslopes and Kyalami (as well as a third in the Roodepoort area), gave students the chance to dance their hearts out on the St Peter’s College stage in Sunninghill during its annual showcase. This year’s show was titled Dance It Out and took the audience on a journey through the emotions and adventures of life in two sessions on the day.

Hosting a special end of year event has become an annual tradition for the Xstatic family. “Some years we do a competition [as our studio’s end of year event] and others a production or showcase,” explained Lindy Liebmann, the owner of Xstatic Dance and one of the dance teachers. “Some years we even have one showcase and one competition.

“This year we are just doing the production as most of the dancers competed in many external competitions such as National Eisteddfod, SA Dance Schools champs and Dance Star International [competitions].”

On the day, 78 dancers from the studio performed 63 pieces in groups, as part of a duo or solo under themes like ‘passion and purpose’, ‘courage and trust’, ‘love’, ‘happiness’ and ‘joy’. All pieces were choreographed by Liebmann and she also included a special tribute to beloved late South African musician Johnny Clegg, which was performed by dance student Annabelle Kirstein in session 1 and the Wednesday 4.15pm class in session 2.

“The showcase is great opportunity for the kids to experience a real-life stage and also show the parents what their children have learnt through the year,” said Liebmann.

“Not all my students do external competitions, so the studio productions gives every child the opportunity to wear an awesome outfit, experience the stage, get an award and be part of our studio family.

“The day is not limited to talented dancers only, but is for everyone to experience the joy, excitement and fun if being part of a production and on the stage!”

After each session, dancers received awards and trophies for their achievement and work over the year.

The studio is officially closed now, but registration for dancers will start on 10 December while the studio will reopen on 13 January.
