MIDRAND – A total of seven crime incidents, including multiple thefts, were reported to the Midrand Police Station for Sector 4, says the station's spokesperson.


Between 17 and 24 November, seven crime incidents were reported to Midrand Police Station.

All the incidents were reported in Sector 4 which includes Glenferness, Kyalami, Barbeque Downs and Blue Hills. The information was supplied to Fourways Review by spokesperson for the station, Sergeant Matome Tlamela.

Cyclist’s wheels stolen

On 17 November, a case of theft was reported in the Riversands area. At about 2.30pm, a cyclist from the Edenvale area who was participating in a sporting event in Riversands, leaned his bicycle against a fence next to a number of other bicycles before going to buy some refreshments.

When he returned a few minutes later he discovered that his bicycle had been stolen. The bicycle was worth R35 000 and was insured.

Solar panels stolen

On 19 November, a case of theft was reported in the Kyalami area. A woman living in Percheron Road was woken up at about 9am by her gardener to inform her that solar panels on the property’s roof had been stolen during the night. The woman reported that she had not heard any noises during the night except for the sound of rain.

Man robbed while waiting for lift

On 20 November, a case of common robbery was reported in Kyalami. At about 10am, a man was standing at the corner of the R55 and Shakespeare Road, waiting to be picked up by a ride-share service. As the man waited, a red vehicle went past him, made a u-turn and stopped next to him. One of the two men inside the car jumped out, snatched the victim’s cell phone from his left pocket and jumped back into the vehicle before it left the scene. The victim at first thought it was a joke but then reported it to the police.

Partygoer’s car stolen

On 23 November, a case of theft of a motor vehicle was reported in the Kyalami area. At about 1.30pm, a man parked his car, a silver Ford Ranger, at the corner of Main and Cedar roads in the Kyalami area and attended a party. At about 3.30pm, he received a call from his car tracking company informing him that a power interruption had been noted in his vehicle. He returned to where his car had been parked, only to discover that it had been stolen.

Horse riding equipment stolen in Zinnia Road

On 23 November, a case of burglary at a residential address was reported in the Kyalami area. At about 5am, a man living in Zinnia Road was on his property and decided to go into his tack room (where he keeps his horse riding equipment). When he approached the room, he discovered that the door was open and five saddles as well as five bridles had been taken. The goods were worth about R64 000 and no arrests have yet been made.

Security guard robbed

On 23 November, a case of armed robbery occurred in the Kyalami area. A security guard working for a local security company was ordered to go to a residential address in the area because the home’s alarm was going off. When he arrived at the address, the owner’s son told the guard that all was in order and that the wind had set off the alarm. The guard left the property and upon returning to his vehicle, an unknown suspect wielding a firearm approached the guard and robbed him of his work pistol before fleeing the scene.

Shopper’s car tampered with

On 24 November, a case of attempted theft of a motor vehicle was reported in the Riversands area. A woman and her son parked on Rose Road at about 10am, making sure that all the doors and windows were locked before going shopping. About half an hour later, the woman sent her son back to the car to fetch her purse from the vehicle. The son did so, finding that the driver-side door lock had been damaged. Upon returning to her car, the mother also noticed that the car’s ignition cover had been removed and that the security system had been tampered with.
