Power restored to Douglasdale area after substation explosion
BRYANSTON – The feederboard at the Brynorth substation blew up on 7 December, affecting the power supply to Bryanston, River Club, Morningside and Douglasdale.
The power supply to Bryanston, Douglasdale, Epsom Downs and Kleve Hill Park was fully restored just before midnight last night, 7 December.
This was announced by City Power on Twitter. The power utility further tweeted, “We appreciate your patience at all times.”

Earlier on 7 December:
A cleanup is underway at City Power’s Brynorth substation after an explosion this morning, 7 December, affected the power supply to Bryanston, River Club, Morningside and Douglasdale.
City Power took to Twitter to alert the public that ‘should everything go according to plan, power will be restored within 24 hours’.
“We apologise for the inconvenience caused,” tweeted City Power.

The City’s power utility shared a tweet with photos of the aftermath:

According to a statement by City Power, the feederboard blew up which damaged the equipment at the substation. The power utility said it was not yet clear what had caused the explosion but the damage was being investigated.
City Power further cautioned that power to most of William Nicol Drive through the Bryanston area was affected. It also apologised for the inconvenience caused.
Earlier, City Power tweeted that more teams had been called to assist with the cleanup.
