Midrand Afrikaanse Akademie learners give parents a day to remember

MIDRAND – Midrand Afrikaanse Akademie Communitas learners end the year in style.

The Midrand Afrikaanse Akademie’ Communitas campus held their annual year-end concert and graduation ceremony for learners going to Grade R next year.

The theme of the event was Movie Magic and parents, siblings and friends came to experience true magic and talent on 9 November.

Almarie van Zyl, the head of the school, said that the campus was taken by storm. “Every EarthKids toddler class arrived, ready to perform their part at the concert followed by the Swallows class (two to four-year-olds), also having fun keeping the beat of Maya the Bee alive.

“Our Afrikaans class, the Uiltjies, entertained the audience with their rhythmic rendition of Moana’s song and Footloose.”

Van Zyl added, “When the Dolphins (three to four-year-olds) took the stage with Meghan Trainer’s Better when I’m dancing and Johnny Clegg’s Great Heart, they had the packed audience clapping along with disbelief.”

Van Zyl said that the Lions class (four to five-year-olds) later on made a grand entrance with their sunglasses and colour gel causing an uproar in the crowd with songs from the movie Grease including Greased Lightning and You’re the one that I want.

“The learners going to Grade R also had their graduation ceremony. Many a tear was wiped away when the children entered the hall wearing gowns and caps as the procession was about to start.

“EarthKids already has a Grade R class, and we will open our first Grade 1 class in 2020. Then we are able to offer English tuition from Grade R to 10.”

Van Zyl concluded, “We are looking forward to this new chapter in the history of our school. As we say – together we create the foundation.”
