MIDRAND – Six crimes, including thefts and business break-in, were reported to Midrand Police from Sector 4 between 1 and 9 November.


Between 1 and 9 November, six crime incidents were reported to the Midrand Police Station.

All the incidents were reported in Sector 4 which includes Glenferness, Kyalami, Barbeque Downs and Blue Hills. The information was supplied to Fourways Review by spokesperson for the station, Sergeant Matome Tlamela.

Laptop stolen while homeowner is out

On 1 November, a case of theft was reported in the Kyalami area. A woman went to work leaving her Macbook laptop on her desk inside her home and her house keys with her gardener so that he could let contractors fixing the woman’s pool into the main house so they could use the bathroom. When she returned some time later, she realised that her laptop was not where she had left it, and suspected that it had been stolen by the workers. Police have not arrested anyone in connection with the theft.

Dog walker left stranded by thieves

On 3 November, a case of theft of a motor vehicle was reported in Glenferness. A woman parked her car, a silver Polo Vivo, on Chettan Road in Glenferness at about 8am and took her dog for a run around the area. She had made sure that all the vehicle’s doors and windows were shut before leaving it. When she returned about an hour and a half later, she discovered that her car had been stolen. There were her belongings in the car and together with the vehicle it was estimated at about R98 500 worth. A docket has been opened by police to further investigate the incident.

Kyalami stables burgled

On 6 November, a case of a business break-in was reported in the Kyalami area. A woman who runs a horse stables business from her home went to bed at about 10pm. At about 2am, the security alarm went off waking the woman up and she activated her panic button. While checking the premises, the woman found that her property’s fence had been cut and the business office entrance had been forced open. The criminals took a pair of headphones, a teaching aid, a radio, a pair of horse riding boots and a motorbike had been stolen. Police are still investigating the matter.

No sign of forced entry after theft

On 7 November, a case of housebreaking and theft was reported in the Kyalami Hills area. A man went to sleep at about midnight after making sure that all his windows and doors were locked. When he woke up about four hours later, he realised that a number of items including a TV, a pair of eye glasses, a watch, earrings, a passport, a hard-drive and a tablet worth an estimated R24 000 had been taken while he was sleeping. No signs of forced entry were found on the property so it is unclear how the criminals entered the home.

Solar batteries stolen

On 7 November, a case of business break-in was reported in the Glenferness area. At about 7pm, a security guard living on the premises of a business that uses a storage container as offices, retired to his room and fell asleep. At about 1.30am, the guard was woken up by lights and noises coming from the storage container, and through the window the guard could see three men leaving the premises with six solar batteries owned by the business. The guard first called his boss to report the theft, and then called the police to report the incident. No arrests have been made yet.

Reckless driver arrested

On 9 November, a case of reckless and negligent driving was reported in the Saddlebrook Estate area. At about 11.30am, a police officer on duty in the area received reports of a reckless motorist driving around the area who was apparently using his vehicle to damage property by running over objects. The officer went to the man’s location and arrested him for his actions.
