Healthy food can be fun, just ask a number of learners from the Riversands Primary School after a recent school field trip.
On 17 October, 16 learners from Riversands Primary School were chosen to participate in a healthy food workshop at the Food Education Agency, which is based at Riversands Incubation Hub near the school grounds. The group spent a happy morning making healthy versions of pancakes, cookies, green salad and fruit salad before sitting down to a delicious lunch where they got to taste their own creations.
The excited learners were enthusiastic about what they’d learnt during the morning session, as they had previously not known that healthy food could be easy to prepare as well as delicious.
Commenting on the initiative, Jodi-Ann Palmer from The Food Education Agency said that she’d had fun imparting her knowledge to the eager learners.
“If they start with a healthy diet at a young age, they’ll be set up for life,” she said.
The Food Education Agency provides training in a number of skills necessary for the food industry including butchers, bakers and deli chefs and also teaches health and safety, hygiene and food handling.
