Promotion for loved officer

MIDRAND – Midrand police said goodbye to Lieutenant Colonel Lionel Chetty.


Midrand police bade farewell to Lionel Chetty who will be joining Ivory Park police as Vispol operation support commander.

Chetty has been promoted to the rank of lieutenant colonel. He joined Midrand police in 2005 as a captain and has worked tirelessly as their Vispol crime prevention commander in joint operations that have built lasting relationships between law enforcement and the local community.

Chetty said, “To my seniors, my community and CPF [Community Policing Forum], fellow colleagues, law enforcement agencies and security companies, I hereby take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you for you support throughout the years that I have served with you.

“During my journey in Midrand, I had the opportunity to meet wonderful people. I surrounded myself with people that empowered, motivated, appreciated and supported me.”

He added that that he was excited for his new journey with his focus being the strengthening of relations with his new community.

Chairperson of the Midrand CPF Steven Johnstone said, “A very sad day and loss for the Midrand CPF and community. Also a joyful day and well overdue promotion for Lieutenant Colonel Chetty.

“We wish him all the best in his new position at Ivory Park police. He always gave 200 per cent dedication to the community and always went the extra mile for us come sunshine or rain.”
