Three men aged between 28 and 32 were arrested after a foiled robbery in Fourways on the evening of 10 October.
Dougalsdale Police Station spokesperson Captain Mpho Tshetlhane said they were investigating cases of possession of suspected stolen property, robbery and possession of a dangerous weapon.
Tshethane said, “It is alleged that police members from Johannesburg West Crime Combatting Unit in Johannesburg District were patrolling around the Fourways area when they received a lookout for [suspects in a] vehicle who had just robbed a 19-year-old man, who was driving along the corner of Cedar Road and Uranium Street, of a cell phone and travel bag.”
The police noticed the suspects on the corner of Uranium Street and William Nicol Drive as they were carrying out another robbery of a second victim who was driving a silver Audi Q5, “When the suspects saw the police they tried to run to their getaway vehicle, a white VW Golf 6 GTI, which was parked along the road.”
The police recovered the cell phone and travel bag from the first victim. Preliminary investigations showed that the gun used during the robberies was a toy gun.
The suspects will appear in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court.
