What do you do when an unannounced guest shows up for a cup of tea?

FOURWAYS– Fourways born and bred 10-year-old stars in the latest National Children's Theatre play.

Gomolemo Tsosane (10) of Fourways is back on stage and ready to entertain.

Gomolemo is starring in a new play, The Tiger Who Came to Tea showing at the National Children’s Theatre Trust.

According to the play’s press release, The Tiger Who Came to Tea tells the story of a tiger who unexpectedly knocks on the door of Sophie’s house, just as Sophie and her mummy are sitting down to tea. Of course, things get a little crazy when the tiger tells them he is hungry and thirsty.

He proceeds to eat all the sandwiches, all the buns, all the biscuits, and then he drinks all the milk and even drains all the water from the tap. Sophie is worried. What will daddy say when he comes home and there is no food for supper?’

Gomolemo plays Sophie and she is loving every minute of it.

“Being Sophie in the play has been fantastic because it allows me to be carefree and have fun and yes, I always get nervous before the show because I want to do really well,” she said.

“What excites me the most is Sophie’s playfulness, she loves to get lost in her world of song and dance. She gets to go eat out at night and have a magical experience in the dark for the first time.”

Gomolemo said she could relate to Sophie. “Sophie is similar to me because we both love to sing and dance. Her lovely family in the play is more like mine in real life. I’m also the only child.”

“In 2017, she did the Pied Piper and in 2019 she was Fern on Charlotte’s Web both at the National’s Children’s Theatre. The highlight this year was when she was a celebrity presenter for the Naledi Awards.”

Gomolemo concluded, “My advice to other kids is that they should focus on their dreams no matter how many no’s you get through auditions, never give up. It is a lot of hard work but if you are passionate about what you do, success will follow.”

The play, The Tiger Who Came to Tea, has been showing since 10 September and will be on until 29 September between 10.30am and 2.30pm during school holidays.
