20 years of dedication

LONEHILL– The Crawford Lonehill community commemorated their 20th year on 7 September.

The Crawford Lonehill community commemorated their 20th year on 7 September with an evening of celebrations with staff and families from the pre-primary, preparatory and college, as well as many of alumni who joined in the festivities earlier in the day by participating in their annual alumni sports festival.

After the celebratory cutting of the cake by the three principals, Caroline Miller (principal of the pre-primary), Gordon Ewen (principal of the preparatory) and Greg Theron (principal of the high school), staff and families, young and old, took to the streets of Lonehill for the much anticipated 5km neon night run. The route included all three schools, where they were entertained with music, dancing, water bubbles and spot prizes along the way, followed by a picnic and movie on the college fields under neon lights.

Crawford Lonehill arose in 1999 and stories of the construction of the school are filled with rain (which delayed the builders), power cuts and unreliable phone lines. However, at the beginning of 1999, 180 pre-primary, preparatory and college learners witnessed the inaugural assembly: Their 19 teachers – as yet total strangers – came down the stairs of the media centre dressed in a variety of costumes, singing ‘hello, Crawford, well hello, Crawford.

It’s so great to see you here where you belong’ to the strains of Hello Dolly. And so, Crawford Lonehill began in the Crawford tradition of doing things differently, with a vibe and an air of pizzazz.

In 2001, the preparatory school moved into their new campus on the Jukskei River, but it was many years later, in 2017, when the pre-primary found their new home in Cheyney Road in Lonehill.

Over the 20 years, the school’s learners ensured the growth and reputation of Crawford Lonehill through their dedication to academic excellence and by participating in a variety of sporting, cultural and community service activities.

The strength of Crawford Lonehill does not lie in the buildings that arose at the end of the last millennium and expanded over the years, it lies in the collective experiences and accomplishments of learners and the inimitable way in which they continue to merge the ‘serious’ and the ‘fun’.
