Mums, you’re not alone

FOURWAYS– Experts in various fields lead the sessions to give advice to new moms, that they are not alone.

There’s no job like being a mother–working overtime, seven days a week, and without pay. The only time mums get to rest is when their boss (child) is asleep. Cuddlers, Witkoppen Health and Welfare Centre, and the Fourways Review, under the banner of Caxton Cares, have joined together to create sessions of support and learning.

Experts in various fields lead the sessions to give mums the skills they need to prepare for the different stages in childcare, as well as skills to uplift them as individuals within a community. On completion of these sessions, mums receive an attendance certificate showing what they have learnt – they can then take these certificates to future employers.

Murray Booth, the marketing executive at Cuddlers, said that he is very proud to be a part of this initiative. “Mothers give so much, but sometimes they need a little help themselves. We are only happy to help as much as we can,” said Booth. Fhumulani Makhera, the social auxiliary worker at Witkoppen Health and Welfare Centre, said that it’s so heartwarming to see the mothers grow from session to session.

“Being a mom means filling many roles, but ‘mom’ is only one person, and sometimes she needs some help,” added Makhera.

The sessions run bi-monthly on Thursdays.

When: 29 August at 10.30am

Where: Witkoppen Health and Welfare Centre, 105 William Nicol Drive.
