A 28-year-old shop owner is shot in the head during a Diepsloot robbery

DIEPSLOOT – A 28-year-old shop owner was shot dead during a robbery in Diepsloot, while suspects got away with money and airtime.


A shop owner, a 28-year-old Ethiopian national, was shot dead on 11 July in Diepsloot Ext 11 when three men, apparently all wearing caps, entered the shop with one suspect armed with a firearm.

The suspect’s allegedly demanded money from the victim and after he refused, the victim was shot once in the head. When emergency services personal arrived on the scene they declared him dead.

The suspects managed to get away with R8 000 and airtime vouchers valued at R5 000. A case of business robbery and murder is being investigated by Diepsloot Police Station.

Diepsloot police corporate communications officer Captain Tinyiko Mathebula said, “The deceased was with a friend of his when they were attacked in the shop. The incident took place at around 5.30pm… I can confirm to you that investigations are currently underway.

“We further appeal to anyone with information that can lead to the arrest of these suspects to contact their nearest police stations or contact the Crime Stop number on 08600 10111.”
