Viral sensation to sing at author awards

FOURWAYS – Local personality Anthea Thyssen-Ambursley has offered support to Menzi Mngoma, the driver whose singing video went viral.

Menzi Mngoma’s route in driving took a direction he could not have imagined because of an earthly angel, Kim Davey. A business trip for Kim Davey on 23 May turned his life upside down.

Mngoma became known to the public after a video clip of him singing went viral on social media. Anthea Thyssen-Ambursley, the founder of AfriCAN Child Your Time Is Now and Fourways local saw the Facebook post and contacted Kim Davey immediately in order to reach out to the young man.

“Menzi said yes to serenading our local authors on 31 July at the second AfriCAN Authors Awards,” Thyssen-Ambursley explained.

“The awards will be held at the Wanderers Club in Illovo.”

Thyssen-Ambursley is the author of three books and has decided to celebrate local and self-publishing authors on her birthday. She is promoting ordinary people’s stories that are changing people’s lives to become extraordinary and hopes to share stories of healing, unity, and restoration and to dismantle superficial boundaries.

“The books selected are of remarkable people in their communities, authors that are inspiring others about the possibilities to become the best versions of themselves.”

Thyssen-Ambursley believes that Mngoma should serenade the world with his voice and with Davey and phenomenal people like Paul Kershaw, ‘we must pull our resources together to raise funds for him to attend the International Presentation of Performers (iPOP) event in Los Angeles in December, an annual event which promotes emerging talent to agents’.

“He will have the opportunity to showcase his talent in front of more than 200 agents.”
