Murder accused in custody after he abandons his bail application

ALEXANDRA – Lesotho IT student's murder charge pends further investigation

The Alexandra Magistrates’ Court further remanded in custody murder accused Napo Mashike (25), a Lesotho national, to 21 August pending further investigation.

The IT student’s case featured in our sister publiscations, Midrand Reporter and Alex News, includes another charge of defeating the ends of justice.

This stems from him allegedly dumping the 44-year-old female victim’s body in a veld which he carried out in a bin from his home in a Midrand complex.

The victim, who was a friend to his sister and mother to a nine-year-old child, died after he allegedly throttled her on 4 May.

He claimed this was after she did the same to him seemingly in defence against his sexual advances as they drank and smoked drugs at his place.

He further claimed that she was his girlfriend, which was disputed by her family.

He also abandoned his bail application at a preceding hearing at a time when investigations revealed two other sexual offence charges levelled against him by women in his home country and in India for which he is sought by the police.

A warrant for his extradition by the Lesotho authorities is said to be pending the outcome of the case which may likely end in the Joburg High Court.
