Local netball player represents SA

NIETGEDACHT – Kylah Dalgleish from HeronBridge College has been selected as part of the U21 team at this year's Indoor Netball World Cup South Africa 2019 tournament and will soon compete against athletes from across the globe.

Out of thousands of action netball players around the country, local athlete Kylah Dalgleish has been selected to play in the upcoming Indoor Netball World Cup South Africa 2019 tournament.

Kylah, currently in Grade 12 at HeronBridge College and a Bryanston resident, has been selected to represent South Africa’s Action Netball U21 team. The 17-year-old will fill the position of goal defence for the national team at the Indoor Netball World Cup South Africa 2019 tournament, which will take place in Paarl, Cape Town in August. Young action netball players from Australia, New Zealand and England will be participating in the competition.

She was selected for the 10-person team by the South African Indoor Netball Federation.

This follows three years of playing on a local team and as a result of her impressive performance during recent inter-provincial tournaments held last year as well as in trials held more recently.

“I’ve been playing action netball since about Grade 9 and traditional netball since I was six years old,” Kylah told the Fourways Review.

“I actually got into the sport through my school [HeronBridge] and play on a local team year round.

“It’s a great stress-reliever and keeps me active. I also feel that God takes pleasure in my playing.”

Action netball is quite similar to regular netball, except that the former is played indoors, games are shorter and happen at a faster pace and the side and roof nets which surround the courts can be used to ricochet the ball into the goal.

“It was unbelievable being selected, I thought maybe they had called the wrong name, as I’m younger than my other teammates and have never played in such a big tournament before.

“The other girls in the team are lovely, and I believe we have a very good team and a good chance.”

The Indoor Netball World Cup South Africa 2019 tournament will be taking place in Paarl, Western Cape from 4–10 August.
