Little Kickers Fourways has a ball

Youngsters giggle with joy as they dribble soccer balls while stealing bananas from monkeys and kicking over 'fish towers'.

It is a typical Saturday morning session at Little Kickers Fourways and the youngest classes are playing fun games before the older children arrive.

The games are age-specific and develop colour recognition, hand-eye coordination, numbers and gross motor skills.

Company owner Karunes Naidoo explained that as the children get older (there are different classes for children from age 18 months to Grade 3) they learn more about the technical side of soccer.

For now though, it is all about development and an introduction to sports.

“We are in nursery schools as well and have good relationships with the parents who help us on the journey,” Naidoo said.

“Many of the parents are new parents and they also get to interact and learn from each other.”

For the youngsters, team spirit is developed as they play together and Naidoo said many shy children have come out of their shells thanks to the support of the coaches.

“Some of our coaches are former professional players and they still get down to the children’s level of animation.”

Naidoo invited anyone interested to come visit during a class.

Little Kickers Fourways has classes at Norscot Manor Recreation Centre, Cedar Lakes Residential Estate, Crawford College Preparatory and Pre-Primary Schools in Lonehill as well as several other nursery schools.
