FOURWAYS – Fourways Martial Arts Academy founder Sensei Stef Biagioni will now double as an instructor and chairman of the Johannesburg Karate Federation.

Founder and instructor of the Fourways Martial Arts Academy Sensei Stef Biagioni has been appointed as the new chairman of the Johannesburg Karate Federation.

Biagioni was part of the South African committee that organised the first African Cup in 1994, hosted in South Africa.

The Martial Arts Hall of Fame recognised his achievements and over 30 years of dedication as a martial artist by awarding him an honorary silver medal for protea colours and a bronze medal for his years of service.

The karate instructor is also the founder and director of the Interschool All Style Karate Championships, which has been running successfully since 2002, attracting more than 90 schools with over 600 competitors in South Africa.

Speaking to the Fourways Review from his karate dojo in Fourways, Biagioni explained his new role as chairman of the Johannesburg district.

“I’m responsible for the demographic of the country, administration side of things, as well as to get karate out there and keep the normal running order. At the end of the day, Karate South Africa is a sporting body.

“There’s traditional karate and sport karate now. Traditional karate is what I do.

“I’ll get a white belt child and send them to black belt through a style, and my style is called Goju Ryu.”

Biagioni concluded, “Part of my duty is also to get more athletes involved in this sport, get them from development level

and send them through to represent the country at a higher level under the protea banner.”

On the academic front, he has completed an accredited sports psychology certificate through Unisa, cum laude.
