Five suspects who were arrested in connection with a Bloubosrand house robbery, have been linked to a further eight crimes in the Douglasdale area.

On 15 May, five men between 24 and 27 years old were arrested by Douglasdale Police Station officers after allegedly committing a house robbery in the Bloubosrand area.

During the incident, a 47-year-old man and his family were tied up and threatened with firearms before the men made off with four television sets, a laptop, five cell phones and the family car, which was later found abandoned in the Kya Sands informal settlement, as reported in Robbery suspects are nabbed [Week ending 31 May].

At the time, the men were suspected of crimes including the possession of stolen property and possession of dangerous weapons.

The spokesperson for the Douglasdale Police Station Captain Mpho Tshetlhane explained, “Swift reaction by Douglasdale police led to the arrest of the suspects, who led the police to the stolen property hidden in different houses in the Pipeline informal settlement.

“The police recovered suspected stolen property, which included cell phones, jewellery, laptops, tablets, knives, cameras, microphones, dangerous weapons, bank cards, and a rifle.”

The police suspected that the men arrested were involved in other serious and violent crimes. According to Tshetlhane, the men were profiled at an identity parade to see if they were linked to any other incidents.

“They are now linked to eight house robberies committed around the Douglasdale policing area.”

She concluded that police investigations are still continuing and that members of the community must continue to report criminal activities happening in their area to their local station.
